I contacted Virgin today and they say they know nothing of this but are approaching the big wiggs, and would respond tp me, no replys yet, also contacted ACS, that was a waste of time, some stupied receptionists answered, with a very low IQ rating, promised reply today, yeh right, not a sausage..

Someone said contact Watchdog, totally agree this needs to be stapped on now before it drags on to long and we all end up with stress, we need to work together, and all contact Watchdog, it looks better the more indivduals write in than one for all, but im very grateful for that persons suggestion he would do it for us all..
The first call I made to virgin media explaining the letter revealed nothing. The rep said that nothing was noted in my account so she said to ignore the letter and leave it. I decided to call them a second time and explained to a different rep.he put me on hold to speak to his manager. After a few minutes he came back saying that indeed they had a court order and had to give over my details although they "didn't like it". The thing is I didn't even get a letter from virgin telling me my details were requested. But it seems virgin managers are now informing the phone reps of this. This is a genuine case, the only thing we can do is respond by letter to acs:law and deny these claims. I will also be contacting michael coyle who fought against davanport Lyons and seek his advice.

Might I make a suggestion?

I suggest that we all go to this ACS:LAW firm on the address provided in the sent letters ourselves and see what happens from there.

There's also another blog talking about the same issue at Consumer Action Group (CAG):

ACS:Law - The Consumer Forums (sorry I was unable to add a hyperlink in for some reason).

I've told CAG members about this group just as I'm telling you about them. If we need to we should band together to fight these people.

The more of us who can fight this, the better. ACS Law really don't have a strong case. Yes, they may have legitimately got people's IP addresses with a court order from Virgin, BUT the way they have sought to solicit money from people isn't legitimate. Like you, CAG members have informed OFT, the Police, Solicitors Regulation Authority, and others.

Yes, that's right. There are four addresses. How about we break the task down geographically and ask members to visit the office that's nearerest to them.

Just trying to be positive - but this could work

Leebones

I'm so sorry about your redudancy. Well, if it comes to it (and I hope it doesn't!) I'm sure everyone from p2pfreak and CAG would band together to help you get there. No worries. It's tough out there right now and the last thing you and others need are idiots like ACS Law sending you these threatening letters.

By the way, hope you don't mind Leebones, but I quoted you on the CAG website (the point you made about Virgin having to give up peoples contact details due to court order). Take care

You are very kind SEK. Of course if any of the info i have given can be used to help, you are all more than welcome!

My next course of action will be a call to Michael coyle tommorow if he works weekends. Then citizens advice on monday. Both will probly result in a letter being drafted up.
I will keep you all posted.

Thanks guys for all the information. Hopefully this will be dealt with soon but anyway even though their case might be legitimate to a degree, they're not abiding by the law when it comes to charging people. Also the ISP's sould have informed us about anything and if our details were given to an institution.

There's so much injustice in all of this and i am just wondering if its best to send them a letter denying the facts or just ignore it?

Also most people don't have fixed IP's and some use wireless networks so acs don't really have much of a case against anybody. Its just that the developers and ACS want to get money out of us from sales that they didnt get because apparently the games were pants. So to be honest, next time they should think about producing some quality games so that things like this don't happen again and innoncent people are blamed for nothing but pure false allegations.

So, do we write a letter to them, ignore it or what?

Any help would e grateful.

There are some guidelines here: Slyck.com • View topic - DL/ACS:law - I've received a letter, what should I do?
