Spoke to a lawyer friend of mine, he said let them take you to court, with his "shot in the dark evidence" he'll be laughed out of court, don't be threatened into parting with your money, especially if your innocent.

It's not just virgin media all th IP Providers will willingly pass your details on when requested to do so by the courts what choice do they have if they are to remain impartial.

not gonna give too much away as you all know who reads this forum but recieved a fourth letter today saying they are willing to accept an even lower offer than before, this has come after the letter saying that they havent recieved anything from me. This offer just proves to me that this deffo is nothing more than a discusting money making scheme targeting both the guilty (which im sure there are some) and those of us who are innocent.

This company needs to be stopped and i for one have been in contact with all the relevant authorities to try to bring these scammers to an end. I urge everyone to contact their local mp's, the sra, watchdog and many others.

I've received one of these letters and like most stories I've have not heard of the website nor used it. Way before and beyond the time I was supposed to have downloaded or uploaded something, I was on detachment with the armed forces in the Falklands, my apartment locked and my pc stored away.

I wonder if there is SOMETHING MORE SINISTER going on here???? - it would be a lucrative living, wouldn't it, for someone to drive around full time and hack into both protected and unprotected wireless connections and commit this infringement.

HAS ANYONE LOOKED INTO THIS LIKELY SCENARIO?

Thank you P2P people! A few months ago my husband received a letter from ACS law demanding £605.06 for compensation of downloading "Scooter - Im Lonely" back in 2008. We ahve not got a clue what this song is, never mind where it was downloaded from?!

First we thought oh its a scam, but then after receiving further letters we have begun to worry. We have now received a further 2 in the backlog of the post (both identical by the way) stating they are willing to offer us a payment offer of £350.00 to be paid in 21 days. In total i believe we have had five letters all threatening court.

I was now panicking, but after searching the internet (and looking on the real ACS law website!) i can rest tonight knowing it is a scam.

So thank you for this forum, and all your honest stories, it really has helped me and my husband wiht this problem.

Does anyone know who we report this to? It is very scary and threatening when you read the letters and i can see some poor person paying up straight away, as we nearly did!

No problem . It's good that you're aware now. I too was worried at first. Only received one letter so far but replied back because it's not true what they said about me downloading a game.
