Post France and p2p

Here's what Sarkozy wants legal in France in order to control piracy over the internet:

-Same as in the USA, you receive a letter from your ISP for illegal downloading but after the complaint of a "entitled party".
-For a second offense, without having to ask any judge, the internet subscription can be interrupted and the user written on a "national black list".
-Any ISP which doesn't collaborate can be sanctioned.
-The ISPs must filtrate connections.
-Any "technical provider" like ISPs, but also platforms such as Youtube can be asked to take actions over the violation of copyright laws (removing content, banning access ...)
-Platforms used for sharing must control the content like DailyMotion and Youtube do.
-Movies offered by VOD must use a six months delay between the release of a movie in theater and the moment it can be used as Video On Demand, same as for DVDs now (for the French system).
-The DRMs mesures are legitimate until they can be read on any device (which isn't the case yet).

But yet, reading his speech, I think some points seem positive, he admits that the offers online aren't really worthing anything and must be changed, so as he says the financial system in the industry should be changed (are we going towards a "global license"?).

I can understand if the content owner wants to take legal action, but except for that I don't see anything positive here? I would be interesting to know how this "filtration" works.

This will never work and the amount of people downloading movies shows it. I think that's naive considering the obvious demand. Maybe it should be called "Video On Delay" instead

I never said it's positive, these measures are anything but that.
I'm not an expert in all that so I can't say how this "filtration" works, but it seems like not many know either:

A court in Belgium ruled that ISPs can be forced, and are obliged to, either block or filter copyright infringing content on P2P networks. Freedom of expression and privacy are not important in this regard. How exactly ISPs are supposed to block and filter copyrighted content remains a mystery.

I also think it's naive this idea about the VOD, but that's how it always was in France about DVDs and they think it's a good idea for this support and would be for VOD also ... Sarkozy said that the real movie experience is in the theater, not in a living room, so this should be encouraged, and even if you copy a movie you still don't have the experience you get in theater so according to him (and if I get his speech right), the future of movies is in theaters.

Yeah as movies get higher in definition it makes sense to get the full experience in the cinema. But some people will never go to the cinema and then the only alternative will be to download. They can't complain about lost revenue if this is their stance on the issue.

Default Politics

Politicians grew up in the newspaper era so they really have no idea whatsoever when it comes to the internet. To them it is a series of pipes on a super highway.

This is why there are so many idiotic laws proposed.

Yeah but they don't seem so aware of reality when you read the president saying that people make business of p2p ... I wonder whom ... The pirate bay? People who are part of "the scene"? No I can't see.

Haha, I should have waited before posting, I've just said the same after you.

For sure, if I were getting an increase of 140% on my salary to earn 19 331 euros per months I would be more honest. (And on the top of the list is the Irish prim minister Bertie Ahern with 25.833€/month ... ).
If I count well it's around 16 times the French minimum salary our president earns.
