Understanding slow bittorent

though maybe a bit of an oddity i was wondering if any one knew of good sites which explains the many reason for slow bittorent or genreal knewlodge of your own

im not asking for any tips to making bittorent any faster or HOW CAN I MAKE MY UTORRENT FASTER only the the resons to why it can be mayed to go at a slugs pace

any advice and sites appriciated

New torrents tend to be slow because there are fewer peers with the pieces you need to complete the download. I read that a torrent's speed is the total upload of all connected peers (seeds + leechers). Makes sense, and once you realise that understanding how to incease the speed of a torrent gets so much easier. That said, the lower you set your upload the slower the torrent gets (causing other users to lower their uploads in an attempt to increase their download speed, at least that's what I suspect). Also if your upload speed is set to high it will cut into your download because your bandwidth dosen't care which way the data is going just how much. Now the number of connected peers (and the nunber of upload slots you choose) also plays a role. Too few peers and not enough will unchoke and too many you start wasting bandwidth on overhead (who has what pieces, i got this, etc...). Basically the same thing with the upload slots except now with too many it will take longer to upload pieces to different peers causing pieces to be unrequested (more overhead). Lastly, peer turnover should be recognized also. If your client is set to disconnect an inactive peer after 5 min.(300sec.), fine for fast torrents, you run the risk of disconnecting a slow peer mid-piece wasting data and having to redownload it.
